Habitat Bonaire

February 10-18, 2018

Consistently rated among the top three dive destinations in the Caribbean, the island of Bonaire is renowned for its aquatic life, soft and hard corals — and some of the best shore diving on the planet. Located in the southeastern Caribbean, just 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela, Bonaire experiences nearly perfect weather year round.

The destination

Perfect weather, friendly people. And everywhere you look, you see the island’s Dutch heritage reflected in the names and architecture. But don’t worry, everyone speaks English. Bonaire sits at the southern edge of the Caribbean — a location that results in its near-ideal climate and year-round warm water. Beyond the great diving, you’ll find herds wild burros and an island rich in history.

The diving

Where many Caribbean islands have a vertical wall that begins a mile or more from shore, Bonaire is surrounded by a steeply sloped incline that starts as little as 100 feet from shore, generally in 40 feet or less of water. This means that most of the island’s best dive sites can be accessed from shore, as well as by boat. There are more than 50 numbered dive sites along the island’s protected coast, all accessible by car. Water temp averages 78-84°F all year.

The resort

Captain Don’s Habitat is located just north of the city of Kralendijk and directly across from the island of Klein Bonaire. Each air-conditioned room offers two queen beds, cable TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, laptop safe and secluded balcony or patio with comfortable furniture. Dine at the on-site restaurant of in town. The dive and photo center are just steps away and there is a great dive site right off the dock. Convenient rinse stations and storage lockers.
